Incase Backpack

When I travel these days, you might think I work for Apple.  I have a MacBook, iPad, HML's iPad, an iPhone (and that's not including whatever else KL is schlepping).  I realized we were living in an Apple bubble about a year ago when we walked by an Apple store, and HML saw the logo and screamed CHARGING. 

Hmmmm, ok - that's funny but kinda weird, and totally our life...get used to it kid! 

Anyway, I bring this all up because when I travel I usually just stuff everything in a bag or backpack and hope nothing gets smashed, cracked, or breaks.  The bag ends up weighing 50 pounds and I am usually also running after HML, so it's often an unpleasant experience.

I am starting to think that it would be wise to invest in an actual computer backpack that is made to fit all of the gear so that there is more protection and the weight is better distributed.  Based on looks alone, I would totally get this (gorg, vintage, heaven) but this seems most practical.

Better Late Than Never

For a long while, I blogged 6-7 times a week, it was my new favorite creative outlet, my readership was growing quickly, and I really enjoyed it.  Even back then, a part of me wished I could do more - but having a full time job, an occasional jewelry business, a family, sweet friends (you know how it goes) life sometimes just gets in the way. 

6-7 times a week turned into 4-5, which quickly turned into 2-3, then 1, and then 0...for like, months.

I felt guilty and sad, like this thing that I had been building I had turned my back on - I felt dumped even though I was the one who initiated the break up.

Time passed, and it became easier for me to GET OVER MYSELF and when I finally did, I discovered something unanticipated: Acceptance.

I put a lot of pressure on myself in almost everything I do, because I enjoy feeling satisfied by working hard and setting goals.  But somewhere along my path, the lines crossed. 

I was so busy exploring or sharing experiences I wanted to do, I didn't actually make time to do any of it.  And what I did make time for, I couldn't appreciate because I was so concerned about the next thing. 

It's so easy to see now (and it isn't rocket science) but I can't be everywhere at once, do everything I want to do, for everyone in my life - all in the same moment.  My expectations needed a reality check, so I stopped, regrouped, and prioritized.  It was hard in the beginning, but ultimately I started really enjoying my choices, because quite simply, I made less of them.

Quality over quantity, a lesson I learned from blogging less, and how I actually don't feel bad about it :).

A Visit to LACMA

A few weeks ago we met up with BM (and her adorbs family) at LACMA for an art filled family day of fun.  Child friendly highlights included:

• Metropolis II (a Chris Burden installation)...sooo many cars and so cool.
• Jumping in puddles (which is a traveling exhibit :).
• The Boone Children’s Gallery (kids can paint to their hearts content).
• Chasing KL throughout Urban Light (more running).
• The awesome Stanley Kubrick exhibit (do not miss this one, it's really good - less child friendly but don't let that hold you back - it's beautifully done).
• Playing in the Jesús Rafael Soto sculpture, Penetrabile - aka - Yellow Plastic Spaghetti (although, we weren't sure if it was super fun or terrifying).
• Hanging out Behind the Berlin Wall (located across the street). 
• THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY: Riding in the huge red elevator for 45 minutes straight.  HML was deeply moved by Barbara Kruger's work, so much so that we were forced to physically remove her from the fun.  It was cute (not the crying part) but I did officially learn, you actually can have too much of a good time. #TakeTheStairs :)

Ornament Making {via Aesthetic Outburst}

A while back, Abbey Hendrickson (the extra talented author of Aesthetic Outburst who also has a fab new craft book that is worth checking out) made 20 ornaments in 20 days.  She recently blogged about it, and since we are having our own little craft night on Thursday (YAY - MB) I intend to channel my inner Abbey.  Do you make your own ornaments?  I plan to start that tradition once HML is old enough to not draw on her face 100% of the time :).  You can view Abby's entire series here.
