Reeo Zerko

Almost like reading someone else's diary, a good, juicy, sketchbook will keep me captivated for hours.  Doodlers Anonymous always showcases amazing talent, but when I stumbled upon Reeo's work, I could not turn away - literally still looking. 

Currently living in London, Reeo Zerkos is an illustrator and media designer from Hangzhou City in China, who has graciously opened the door to his extraordinary talents via his sketchbooks.  And, for an extra hit of goodness, but sure to check out The Magic in a Book (Reeo video style).

MONDAY FUNDAY: Benjaman Kyle

Woah, this portrait is hand drawn using only DOTS (stippling is the technique and patience is the name of the game) but there is more to this story, and it's kinda awesomely weird so let me start from the beginning. 

Benjaman Kyle is the pseudonym adopted by a man who has dissociative amnesia. He was discovered unconscious on August 31, 2004, and is believed to be about 64 years old. He is the only American citizen officially listed as missing despite his whereabouts being known.

Miguel Endara felt instantly moved to help Benjaman after viewing Finding Benjaman (a short documentary about this odd tale).  He created this portrait in hope of spreading awareness and to help raise money through the sale of prints to help get Benjaman a new social security number.

WEIRD FACT: Initially, he was known as BK because he was discovered on the premises of a Burger King. Since then, he has chosen to live under the name Benjaman Kyle and insists that his real first name is Benjaman

A Visit to LACMA

A few weeks ago we met up with BM (and her adorbs family) at LACMA for an art filled family day of fun.  Child friendly highlights included:

• Metropolis II (a Chris Burden installation)...sooo many cars and so cool.
• Jumping in puddles (which is a traveling exhibit :).
• The Boone Children’s Gallery (kids can paint to their hearts content).
• Chasing KL throughout Urban Light (more running).
• The awesome Stanley Kubrick exhibit (do not miss this one, it's really good - less child friendly but don't let that hold you back - it's beautifully done).
• Playing in the Jesús Rafael Soto sculpture, Penetrabile - aka - Yellow Plastic Spaghetti (although, we weren't sure if it was super fun or terrifying).
• Hanging out Behind the Berlin Wall (located across the street). 
• THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY: Riding in the huge red elevator for 45 minutes straight.  HML was deeply moved by Barbara Kruger's work, so much so that we were forced to physically remove her from the fun.  It was cute (not the crying part) but I did officially learn, you actually can have too much of a good time. #TakeTheStairs :)

Judith Supine

I often praise street art, but Judith Supine, an artist from Brooklyn, NY has officially set the curve.  I am absolutely loving the multi-layered, heavily graffitied, distorted figures in psychedelic neon hues.  They are bold, a little scary, but still quite beautiful (unless of course you hate bleeding eyes :).
