In a normal world, my life would consist of this (real job), this (pretend job), and this (my favorite new job) - but since nothing is really normal, I would like to introduce you to my newest labor of love Coney Dog (the side project job), cause I'm all about having free time!
Coney Dog started when Mike Binder (my real boss :) decided that he simply could not live another day in L.A. without his beloved Detroit style Coney Dogs. He then started hearing weird voices, met up with James Earl Jones, and in a few short weeks build Coney Dog by hand (note: this story is slightly exaggerated - but filled with as much heart as Field of Dreams, I promise :).
Coney Dog has been open for a little over two months and it turns out Mike wasn't the only one missing this unique Detroit flavor (we're packed - YAY). Located in the heart of the Sunset Stip (across from the Whiskey a Go Go), open super late on the weekends (till 3am), and providing one hour free parking on the roof, Coney Dog is filled with all sorts of yummy goodness. From Detroit style chili dogs, Chicago dogs, LA Street Dogs, Vegetarian/Vegan options, Craft Beer, Chili Fries, Greek Salads, to the most AMAZING desserts (visit the menu for more details) there is honestly no reason to go anywhere else if you are in the hood (did I mention the cheapest dog is $3.00 - yup - it's also a bargain).
Other than the California Jack and the Rockslide Brownie (my current addictions) the best part about this side/not so side project, is the work I have done in helping create the Coney Dog brand. It's been such fun laying out the menu, photographing the food, and helping shape the ads - it feels good to participate in that capacity. To enjoy a taste of Detroit and see the fruits of our labor, come say hello:
