Our spare bedroom used to be our home office, but once Mamala arrived on the scene we felt she deserved to have her own room (we know, we know, we are SO thoughtful :). Due to our extra cozy living quarters (a.k.a. our teeny apartment), KL and I decided to put a workspace in our bedroom.
We did a ton of research scouring blogs, magazines, and online stores...all the usual suspects (West Elm, Crate & Barrel, Room & Board, Ikea, CB2, etc.) and surprisingly the price started adding up quickly for individual pieces we weren't that crazy about. As we continued to price out options, we felt that a customized built-in solution would be the best long term investment.
BEFORE: A lonely, simple, window - begging for some love and attention.
AFTER: Magical desk happiness :)
Our new fancy schmancy workspace is made up of two floating cabinets with adjustable shelves. The desk runs the entire length of the wall, and has drawers set to the right and left sides.
As you can see, we decided against having floor to ceiling shelves, so we cut them off about 18" above the desktop. We thought it would make the space feel less cramped, and allow for us to maximize our work surface, and boy were we right! It is by far the best thing about this new set up. It has given us an office space without taking over the bedroom, and allowed for sweet Mamala to have her nursery.
Ps. We also repainted our bedroom a beautifully warm grey color (Cityscape) and we are obsessed.
